Brazil’s Population
There is a high population in Brazil. According to google.com (2007), “Brazil is the most populous country in Latin America, as well as one of the most populous in the world”. One reason the population is growing in Brazil is their Brazil does not accept abortions. Brazil has religious beliefs that are Catholic, which is part of Christianity. In the 19th, European immigrants brought Catholicism, and then as now, there are many Catholic people in Brazil. They are strongly bereaving in their religion. In addition, Catholicism has a taboo, which is Sex is for making baby, so they do not allow abortions. “The Roman Catholic Church says that deliberately causing an abortion is a grave moral wrong.” (BBC. News, 2007, paragraph, 1) “From that moment a unique life begins independent of the mother and father”. Therefore, Brazil’s government made laws that included their religion, so people could not get abortions in Brazil, except in unusual situations like rapes. Also, they do not accept abortion, whitch causes illegal abortion. According to J. Ross (2005 paragraph, 24) in Women’s e News, “Xavier says women often use primitive methods for inducing abortions, such as inserting objects in their uterus or taking poison”. Therefore, a lot of women take the high risk of illegal abortions. However, people can buy contraception goods in Brazil, so al most all people can use contraception. However, sometimes the contraception goods do not work, so people have a baby accidentally, but they also cannot get an abortion. J. Ross (2005) also mentions a true story in which a husband raped his wife. The wife did not want to have children, but the government did not accept her abortion. In addition, street children are a big problem in Brazil. Street children came from deserted children or runaway children. They are surviving themselves. Some street children search for food from garbage cans. However, some street children are makes street crimes, because they do not have enough food. Their targets are rich people. C. Brandao (1995) in “The Killings Escalate in Brazil,” mentions that rich people employ killers to kill children for private security. Also, the killing of children is a business. In addition, this business helps killers’ lives to by make money. This author also mentions that killers do not get guilt or punishment, because they are protected by employers and judgments are loose. Therefore, killing of children has escalated. However, the government does not protect street children, because there are too many street children in Brazil. Also, Brazil is debiting money from the country’s people. According to Britannica Online’s “Brazil, the Economy” (2007, p, 29), an “Almost continuously high rate of inflation in the last 20th century affected every aspect of Brazil’s economic life”. Therefore, they do not have enough money, so they cannot take care of these children.
Brazil has a lot of problems, which are Illegal abortion, street children, and population. If Brazil wants to reduce these problems they should accept abortion because there are three reasons, helping women, decreasing street children, and controlling population.
First of all, governments should protect women, because many women try to take illegal abortions. These abortions have high risks and sometimes cause dath. Abortion is always a wound, just of women’s bodies and hearts. According to J. Ross (2005, paragraph, 12) in Women’s e News, “an estimated 5,000 women die, and 800,000 are hospitalized every year as result of clandestine abortions across the region, according to the international planned parenthood federation”. Although getting abortions is not permited according to their religion, so some people do not accept religion, so government should change the law to protect these women. Therefore if they can make laws without their religion, they can help a number of women who are dying.
Second, there are a lot of street children in Brazil. Street children are trying to survive on their own, so government should protect and support them, because there are more children who are killed in Brazil. According to C. Brandao (1995, paragraph, 4), “In 1994, 1221 minors were killed in the State of Rio de Janeiro, an average of more of more than three kids every day; 570 died from gunshot wounds, and a total of 344 were under the age of 11”, so a lot of children are killed every day. Their religion does not accept abortion, but it accepts killing children. In addition, intrinsically adults must protect children. If government does not have enough money to protect street children, people should not make street children, so they should accept abortion, because the parents of street children are too irresponsible; they already have discarded their religion. There fore, Government should make a choice for people. It is better and more moral than allowing unwanted children to be killed.
Finally, government should control population, because they cannot support poor families. Brazil has too much difference in fortunes in society between rich and poor. Children are costly. If they cannot accept abortion without exceptional instance, poor people cannot continue their lives. Also, there is a large population in Brazil, but government does not control population, because of their religion. According to BBC. News (2007), their religion thinks having children is good, so killing children is taboo, like abortion. Therefore, government making laws allowing abortion is forbidden. However, the law already makes street children. It will make more street children. They just grow their population in vain.
Opponents of regal abortion say that accepting abortion is a blasphemy against god. However, they think abortion is blasphemy against god, but killing children is not. Killing unborn babies and killing children is different. Unborn babies do not understand that they are being killed, but children can understand they are being killed and what caused them to die. They can feel fear. Religion does not give solution for people for this problem. People have to think themselves.
In conclusion, Brazil’s government should accept abortion, because it makes illegal abortion, which has killed a lot of women, there are a lot of children who are killed, and increasing number of street children in Brazil, and governments should control population. If Brazil changes law without their religion, people can have more choice in making children. Also, women can take abortion fairly, so they do not risk their dear life to get one. In addition, that will make no more street children. If they accept abortion, they can make a more peaceful life.
